Tools to support remote teaching and learning

Here is a compilation of some web tools that can be used for student engagement and interaction in an online teaching and learning environment. Each tool is described with its purpose and for what purpose it can be used.


 

Quizizz allows you to conduct student-paced formative assessments in a fun and engaging way for students of all ages. Free gamified quizzes for every subject to play in class and at home. Pick an existing quiz or create your own for review, formative assessment, and more.

EdPuzzle is a free assessment-centred tool that allows teachers and students to create interactive online videos by embedding either open-ended or multiple-choice questions, audio notes, audio tracks, or comments on a video.

Edpuzzle allows teachers to add engagement and accountability to video content. Teachers can use their own videos or use videos found on YouTube, Khan Academy, National Geographic, and others. At teacher defined locations the video will pause and students will be required to answer questions before continuing. Teachers can create multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions, comments, and add voice-over to video content.

Prezi is a presentation tool that can be used as an alternative to traditional slide making programs such as PowerPoint. Instead of slides, Prezi makes use of one large canvas that allows you to pan and zoom to various parts of the canvas and emphasize the ideas presented there.

Formative is an assessment tool where students can type, draw, or submit images to demonstrate their understanding. Can upload any pdf/document/google doc, click to add places for your students to respond, edit any question details and you’re done.

Online Trainings

CETE will be providing training on a scheduled basis based on the following main areas:

 

Online Teaching Essentials It is necessary to know the basics or the essentials of Online Teaching when we are moving to a remote online learning environment. Hence these trainings will allow participants to explore the basics of online teaching and learning. They will learn the critical differences between online and face-to-face courses, including faculty and student expectations, role adjustments, and course design and evaluation.
Learning Management System (Moodle) All the asynchronous learning activities and monitoring and managing of student’s learning is implemented using Moodle. We will provide hands-on online trainings to use of Moodle and the pedagogical use of the tools in creating learning activities. In addition, grading and giving feedback to students through Moodle will be covered in these series of trainings.
Designing for Remote Online Teaching There are differences in taking lessons face-to-face and in an online learning environment. Lessons to be delivered online needs to be well-planned similar to face-to-face classes. These trainings will focus on lesson planning for online classes considering pedagogy and integration of technology.
Preparing Digital Content and Resources In an online learning environment, content and the resources play a vital role to interact and engage students during the learning process. These training will assist instructors to prepare digital content and resources using available digital tools and technologies.
Digital Skills lift-up on online teaching tools and technologies Online teaching and learning require to access several digital tools and technologies. These trainings target to develop competencies of instructors on using those tools and technologies by lifting-up their digital skills.

Consultations

ONLINE CONSULTATIONS DURING REMOTE ONLINE TEACHING
CETE will be providing online consultation services for all the faculties to support in the conversion process to remote online teaching and learning. CETE will assist in providing instructional design support, additional training support, content or material development support and recommending solutions to other issues related to faculty needs during the consultation timings. Faculties can proceed for a group consultation and/or individual consultations. A CETE staff will be available for online consultations as per request.

Consultation Timings
CETE will open for consultations during the following timings:
• Morning: 9am to 11am
• Evening: 8pm to 10pm
Approximately 30min per consultation will be allocated.
Note: Further consultation timings will be informed through website

Requesting for a consultation
Faculty staff should request for a consultation meeting at least one day prior using the “Request Now” link below

Approval and Confirmation of Consultation

Once faculty send the request through website, available staff from CETE will be assigned as a consultant and confirmation email will be sent to faculty. A meeting will be fixed in Google Meet and details will be shared with the email. Faculty needs to join the meeting using the Google Meet sent during the time allocated. If there is request for same subject for the consultation from different faculties then combined consultation can be provided.

Disapproval of Consultation
In case, CETE is unavailable to provide consultation for the requested timing, then faculty will be informed via email and alternative timings and dates would be suggested.
